4:1a–b Beyond that, brothers and sisters, we urge and entreat you in the Lord Jesus (Λοιπὸν οὖν, ἀδελφοί, ἐρωτῶμεν ὑμᾶς καὶ παρακαλοῦμεν ἐν κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ). Earlier Paul had said, “Now we are alive if you stand firm in the Lord” (3:8). He then related how the team prayed that the Thessalonians might stay strong in love and in holiness (3:11–13). Now in 4:1–11 he shows in concrete detail what it means for the Thessalonians to be holy and loving in their behavior.
